It does look a bit like one of the appenzellers.... but I am another of your fans who would so love to see an image of a Cavalier...
The tricolor, King Charles, has almost identical colors in the same distribution as the beautiful appenzellers but that is where the similarity ends. Cavaliers have much shorter legs, a thick furry tail, and generous feathers on the legs and slippers on the feet.
It looks like an early Bernese Mountain dog ( the above is the German name) although rather petite. They almost died out until a breeder sought to make sure the breed was not lost. They are the origin of all Swiss Mountain dogs ( above mentioned, plus Saint Bernards, Swiss Mtn. dog, Greater Swiss Mtn. dogs and a couple of others). Today the "Berners" are a much bigger dog ( although not as big as the Saints) and are the strongest dog breed - able to pull up to 1200 pds. They were breed to pull large wooden milk carts in Switzerland. We have a beautiful male and are so thankful the breed did not die out. Would love to see more images of the Bernese Mountain dog as well as Saint Bernards.
