This is from an 1880's Antique Rubber Stamp catalog that I added to my collection fairly recently. This is actually from the title page and shows the factory in Baltimore, where the stamps were made. I just thought it was as cute as cute can be, and I especially loved the Flag on the top! I made a second version in case you want to add your own writing to the flag. I though this would make a fun label to decorate the outside of any container that you store your rubber stamps in!

I Love it! Thank you so much for all the fabulous images
ReplyDeleteOh, what a cute graphic! I love how cleverly the artist worked in the items the factory made and the services they offered around the windows--but my beady little eyes noticed the misspelling of "stationEry"! In general, people were better spellers 100+ years ago than they are now, but, heck, no one in any era was/is perfect!;)
ReplyDeleteHi Karen! I just wanted to thank you for providing all of these wonderful images for us! Hope you're having a wonderful week.
ReplyDeletebe a sweetie,
shelia ;)
WHAT A GREAT IMAGE AND A GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) THANKS Karen! :)
ReplyDeleteKaren, is there an address for this building? I am a vice president of the Baltimore Architecture Foundation and we are working on finding the histiries of old buildings. If i know the address, i can match a building and a business.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
How exciting! Yes, the address is 417 East Baltimore Street. According to the catalog they were the largest Rubber Stamp House in the U.S. I hope that helps!
DeleteOMG. I just checked this address and it's a STRIP CLUB! The building in the image you've shown is no longer there.
DeleteDear Karen,
ReplyDelete'...I made a second version in case you want to add your own writing to the flag.'. Oh, these always so friendly, giving, sympathetic little sentences in your postings..
Yes! I do love to add something on this fin-de-siecle flag. And yes, I really like this for my little rubber-stamp-container-department. I often feel touched when I read your -always modest- words like: "...I think maybe you would like..', or '...Maybe you like to use these for..". Thank you for your active imagining how exactly you can support people from over the whole world in their joy and creativity.
For me it is unique in the world how you share your gifts, strengths and talents with anyone who can use it for adding beauty, joy, love and fun to life. Thanks for all your last years secret treasures and hidden gems. I never wrote you till now, to say how deeply grateful I am for the way you let beauty and love radiate in everyday life! (Without Ever Asking Anything In Return..)
Many greetings from Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Oh Lucie, You are the sweetest!! Your comment made my night! Thank you so much for your extremely kind words, I appreciate this more than I can say!
DeleteKaren....you read my mind..."oh, I hope she did one with a blank flag..." and then, there it was! You are so good to us...I don't always take the time to say thanks (although I do try to leave you a thank you comment everytime I choose to download an image)....So, thank you, thank you, thank you...for all the time, consideration, and creativity you pour into this blog. You are greatly appreciated!
