My Living Room - The Big Reveal & Huge Giveaway

My Living Room: The Big Reveal & Huge Giveaway
Today's the day for The Big Reveal on my Living Room Makeover!
You may recall that I selected Sherwin-Williams Gauntlet Gray for my walls, and I am thrilled with how gorgeous that color looks in this room!
I love how easily the Chip It! tool brought everything together. I was able to pull from both of the inspiration photos to get the exact look I was hoping for. Sherwin-Williams Bee's Wax color is represented in the natural tones of the sisal rug, and the horse-print frame is a perfect match for Sherwin-Williams (SW) Tricorn Black!
I used lots of white touches (shown as SW Extra White on the palette) to add some lightness and contrast to the gray. This loveseat was previously in my family room, but it really wasn't the right size for that space so it worked out great moving it in here. I popped in lots of pieces of Ironstone from my collection and I splurged on the white glass lamps, but it was sooo worth it!
The mirrors, end tables, coffee table, horse art and chairs all came from the shop that I recently closed down. Perfect timing on that one!
I was so excited to find these Ikat Pillows that incorporate the SW Heartthrob red and the SW Dragonfruit pink!
I've had that long sofa table in my garage for over a year! I may end up painting it to match the coffee table. We'll see!
The print is a family heirloom and I snagged the antique concrete urn at Lucketts. I love displaying old garden pieces inside my home. I still need to fill the urn with something.
This antique secretary is another family piece. I haven't quite finished styling the shelves, but I got a good start on it. I'm planning to add some Ironstone platters and plates to the walls on either side of this piece.
I think the living room looks just as nice as the dining room now!
I hung three of these mirrors in between my windows. I think they represent the SW Renwick Golden Oak shade quite nicely!
I think I'm going to enjoy hanging out in this space!

And just as a reminder, here's how the room looked before ...
Very masculine, as it was my husband's library before he moved to another room in the house.

This was my first inspiration photo. I chipped it and used Gauntlet Gray for the walls.

This was my second inspiration photo. I chipped it too and used these colors to pull my accessories together. A big thanks again to Chassity from Look Linger Love for letting me use her dining room photo!

  3. This room is exquisite! All three rooms in my li'l apartment need some TLC, but the kitchen/dining area is in the saddest shape. I'd love to be able to get a kitchen table, maybe even some cabinets, shelving, or other nifty kind of storage.

  7. It's amazing how fresh, modern and elegant the room looks now. I am terrible at imagining how color can transform a room and was so pleasantly surprised with how the grey turned out. I also love, love, love the white accents and steel accent pieces. Karen, when can you come to CT and redo my house!? LOL!

  17. Beautiful! Love the way the furniture pops against the walls and the use of color in the pillows. We used Greys in our Guest Room and my husband's Office-and I am loving the new colors...

  18. Wow -- that turned out beautiful, very elegant! Well, who couldn't use that kind of makeover! hmm -- so many rooms in my house need some tlc. I think I would use the tool and the gift card to either makeover my bedroom (like so many homes, our master bedroom seems to be "the room of last resort" -- just a hodgepodge). Or maybe our "playroom", which, since our youngest is 15, has become the "room of last resort annex" -- maybe it needs to morph into a studio, or exercise room, or office (or all three!).

  23. Gutsy to go with a a grey that dark, but it worked, good for you! my kitchen (which was custom-built for the previous owner in 1952) is in dire need of a makeover,I am thinking green for the base cabinets, cream for the uppers, and some kind of pink (but don't tell my husband!) for the walls, but would love to be able to see it before committing to colours. I'd love to give my living room an update. I recently purchased a lovely pair of sage green draperies and moved some prints from another room in there, and it just needs the right color to pull it all together!

  36. Your makeover is beautiful!! I've been playing with the ChipIt to find the right colors for my new studio (being built in our new storage barn). I was looking for just the right gray for my walls and you found it for me!! My color scheme is dark gray, white, black, deep purple and raspberry pink, with maybe a little turquoise thrown in somewhere, because I love turquoise! Thanks for the inspiration and for all the lovelies from Graphics Fairy.

  37. your room makeover is great! i never would have thought of using that color of grey!! it really looks fabulous.
the chip tool is awesome.....my whole house needs a chip tool..if not, just bulldozed and re-built! but, seriously,if i were to redo a room,it would be the familyroom/den....so that we could all enjoy a well-done space to relax and enjoy each other!(i would re-do my bedroom..but with my grandkids living with me,that would be selfish!).

  43. Your living room is really beautiful. I keep the chip-it button on my tool bar and use it all the time but not for decorating a room, yet. I will give it a try now. My living room is gold and I'm ready to repaint with something more subdued but still want a color with some punch. I'm thinking your darker shade of grey may be for me, too! Also, I absolutely love the way your family heirlooms and new purchases work together for that wonderful eclectic esthetic, which is also my style of decorating. Lots of inspiration here! Gorgeous!

  44. I'm diggin this "Chip It" Tool by Sherwin Williams! I'd love to make-over our overly-bright white living room! I've actually been looking at various grey/charcoals like you used - great look!

  45. Love the color palette you chose! The gray and oranges is stunning! I need to redo my hallway...a challenge because it wanders though the whole house, upstairs and down, with no real breaks...so that's a lot of whatever color is chosen. But I don't want to do a boring old beige.

    ReplyDelete
  46. My whole house is blah beige. Great for an overall neutral when we moved in, but a bit more than boring now. I'd really love to make over my master bedroom - this girl needs a little retreat!! Thanks for the chance!

  47. Love your room, I think I would make over my dinning room, lots of ideas, need to come up with a plan

  48. I have wanted to do over my bedroom in purple, but that grey is so beautiful I might change my mind and go with a pretty shade of grey.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I love your living room. Grey is such a nice change of pace. We just bought a cottage in our historic district. It is a complete fixer, so the next 6 months will be exciting. Would love the prizes, but will use the chip tool to get started.

  50. I moved from my home to a small mobile home when my husband became ill. I have lived here 2 years and he recently passed away. I would love to incorporate some of these cool looks into my home and make it truly a place I want to come home to. I know I could do that if I could just win this great give away. I would do my living and dining/kitchen area since they are basically one big room. I could paint my dining furniture, my cabinets and my walls, how great would that be. Love what you have done and thanks for letting me enter. cdolls@live.com

  88. I have a kitchen with painted cream colored cabinets that opens into a small dining area and TV watching area. I'm struggling with finding a color that looks good in all the areas. Think I may need to paint the cabinets white, because lately I love all things blue and the deep cream on the cabinets just doesn't look great with any of the blues I select.

  89. My kitchen needs a paint job. The trouble is I have multi-color granite counters that are going to stay and they need to be matched. I cannot bring them to the store obviously so this tool might just be the way to figure out cabinet and tile colors I need. I am going to take a picture of the room and see what happens

  108. Oh wow. That is sick gorgeous. I'd definitely pick my bedroom. I'm okay at doing everything else in the house, but my room is the last to get any attention. All to often "just go throw it in my room" is the solution. The chip it tool looks brilliant. Might have to try that even if I DON't get picked. :<)

  109. I love the strong greys and the pink and red to accent! Very lovely. I need to chip my living room. We just bought caramel brown sofas, just as brown is going out and grey is coming in! So I need to find a way to disguise the brown and make the room look contemporary. This one is still in the last millennium!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Sorry to hear that you had to close your store. The silver lining is that you got to use some of the merchandise in your home. Your living room looks amazing!

I need to redo my living room. I'm going to buy new slipcovers and make new pillows. I'll probably do my chip it from the fabric I choose. I think I want to have aqua accents this time. The last time I redid my living room in 2010 I had one wall with dark pumpkin orange and had amber and gold as accents around the room.

    ReplyDelete
  111. What a nice home. I love the wall collor.

  112. You always give us such great stuff! Now ChipIt!

I would like to make over my daughter's bedroom. She will be going to university in October and it would be so cool to have a great new fresh decor for her when she comes home for Christmas. The current scheme has been in place for 10 years and was even brought from our last house because of the curtains I had made her and the toning colours of her existing bedding. While she still likes the curtains, she is bored with the bedding and has taken to using a Cath Kidston type print from my stash of guest bedding, which just so does not go with the decor! I am longing to get my hands on that room!

    ReplyDelete
  113. I currently have paint strip samples hanging from the walls in my living room so that's definitely the room that's at the top of my list. I love your room makeover!

    ReplyDelete
  114. Wow - what a fabulous wall color! I LOVE it combined with the bright pop of color in your pillows, the warmth of the secretary's wood tones, and the white. You did such a great job making over this room! I hope you're enjoying it!
We have a finished basement that is basically a blank slate - it has absolutely no decor, just some mismatched furniture and a tv. It definitely needs some life!! I'll have to try the Chip It tool to pull together ideas for the space!
Thanks for the chance for this fabulous giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Karen, I absolutely LOVE the room! That gray is so soothing. We have just finished redoing our bathroom, (including replacing the vanity, sink and toilet), and I'm beat! But I still need to find something for a blank wall, (I wanted the James Dean portrait of him peeking out from his sweater but my husband refuses to allow a picture of a man "looking at him" in the bathroom). Anyway, we did the room in a deep and light gray and I love the way it turned out.
Now, we need to focus on our boys' bedrooms - two bedrooms and a bath in the "A" of our A-frame, and both of them have very different tastes so this is going to be quite a challenge....

    ReplyDelete
  116. Oh my goodness gracious - it's GORGEOUS!!! I'd love to use that palette in my upcoming bathroom... it would be perfect.

  117. Karen,
What an incredible transformation and wonderful example of the "wonder" that is
"Chip It!" I especially love your case goods....the coffee table and side table are fantastic, but, those slipper chairs....they are so delicious I could literally EAT them!

    Great job, fantastic inspiration....as always!

  119. Your room is gorgeous. It takes effort to pull off this look with the greys and not all can do so as elegantly as you have! I like our living room with neutral tones but am looking for a color change. But if it means buying new furniture etc to go with the new look, that might be challenging!

  120. You've done a lovely makeover on this room and I really like how the sisal rug enhances the grays. Beautiful!

  132. Our kitchen opens up to our living room, with just an island separating them. We just recently painted our kitchen an olive green, with white cabinets, and matte black and maroon accents. I would LOVE to be able to repaint our living room now and get it out of the 1970's. It would make the entire 2-room space look SO much better. I am also thinking of grey walls, as I think it would tie in nicely with the kitchen colors. There is so much I could do if I won this giveaway....thank you so much for the chance!

Your living room turned out GORGEOUS! I like it so much better than the red. I would never have thought to paint walls grey, but the more I see people doing it, the more I love it!
Fingers crossed that I am the lucky winner and can do some MUCH needed redecorating in my living room.
    Thank you for the opportunity!

  135. I think my kitchen or master bedroom could use a little help. We make a lot of our own things out of recycling old broken furniture and turning it into something else. Those 2 rooms have been set aside and could use a little pick me up!!

  136. my kitchen is next! We re-did it when the kids were but need more storage. I would like to take 4 feet out to f the side and build a pantry. I would like to cut french doors into the back wall, and add a walk out porch. This sweepstakes and the sherwin william prize would sure help!

  137. I'd love to repaint my kitchen/pantry ~ it's a sort of almond color with grey cabinets in the kitchen and white in the pantry. I'm not quite sure what color I'd repaint, but I'm partial to yellow and lime green.
Loving your living room ~ looks like it's right out of a magazine!
    Thanks for the chance!!!

  149. Wow Great reveal! I would love to be able to re-do my living/work room. It has a high ceiling painted the same dull sage green as the border around the top of the room and the walls are a light mint color. We have been here a little over 3 years but the bedrooms had to be done first as the previous owners rented it to smokers so scrubbing walls and repainting the rooms for the kids came first. Part of the living room is for the family and the other half has my computer desk and craft shelves. Thanks for a chance to win this!

  159. Amazing! I love Sherwin Williams paint, and used to live in New England where I used it exclusively in my home that was built in 1798 in CT, and a subsequent one here in CA... Not to rave, but I found only SW performed well and had the colors I loved! Your room looks terrific, I thought out of a magazine look! And I love the transition of the gray to the red in your dining room... Now if only I could get my house to look as good, sigh. Thanks for sharing! I'm posting as anonymous, but if I win the makeover I'm T. Macko, at flashter2u@verizon.net... good luck to everyone!

  178. My studio, library, computer room, craft closet inhabit the same wee space. A mere 9' by 9' square! I've painted it 6 times (my husband jokes that it use to be a 10' by 10' space). It faces east and looks out upon my street. I watch the joggers and dog walkers in the summer and the sledders and snowplows in the winter. My insides would explode if I won the sweepstakes...I'd redo my daughter's room. She's turning four and I've been wanting to do a princess-themed makeover for her birthday gift. Her favorite colors are purple and pink (or course), but I asked her for an accent color (not sure it she understood what that meant), and she chose yellow. I have some old vintage stuff that's white and I think some new color in there would just be peachy keen!
