You may recognize the image above, these Morris Nest and Egg images are highly sought after images and very difficult to get. I've been trying to acquire one of these, for the last couple of years and I finally was able to score a couple at a fairly reasonable price! Yipee!! This one dates to the 1870's and is a Nightingale nest and egg. I've provided the image above in PDF format so that you can print it and frame it. Easy peasy!

Here's the before pic, I used these plain bleached burlap or jute bags. You can purchase them here if you like, or if you're handy with a sewing machine, you could always make your own. The size that I used were the 6" by 10" bags. I printed the image directly onto my fabric, just like last week, again using some canvas dropcloth fabric and the label technique. After printing, I cut my fabric down to size, and pulled some threads around the edges to give it a rustic looking fringed effect. Lastly I just hot glued the fabric right to the front of the bag! Super easy and fun!!
I filled the bag with some fine French soaps. This would make a great hostess gift for Thanksgiving!!

Interesting tecnique. Does the print resist washing? I usually use sublimation ink on paper and then transfer it onto the fabric.
ReplyDeleteBtw, it doesn't matter if the background of the image is transparent or white, since the printer doesn't have white ink, it won't show up anyway (unless it's not completely white).
I've been visiting your blog for a while and since this is the first time I leave a comment I'd like to tell you that I enjoy your uploads very much. I even have a "graphics fairy" folder where I saved more than 100 images that I liked. Keep up the good work! :)
hi karen tha's beautiful strong desing just a great combination. the sofnnes and the edge xoxo
ReplyDeleteHi Inkiu,
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't suggest washing it, if your ink runs when wet on paper items, it will run when wet on the fabric items. Some printers, use inks that are water resistant, like certain Epsons, if you have one of those, then you might have better luck! Since this is a gift bag though, no need to wash it. There are some sprays that can be used for UV protection.
Thanks for the tips on the transparency issue. I'm glad you have found so many images that you can use in your art!
I love nests, and this one is beautiful! The bag is such a fun idea! Thanks for the great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWow! You rock Graphics Fairy!
ReplyDeleteoh...What a beautiful image and great little project! Thank you, Karen!
ReplyDeleteKaren I love your bag, it will be a very welcome present.
ReplyDeleteAnnette x
Love these! Wondering what you placed in between the bag to keep the hot glue from going over to the other side?
ReplyDeleteJeanine
I'm so glad you all liked my project and the nest print!
ReplyDeleteJeanine,
Good point! I just folded up a piece of paper and stuffed it in the inside of the bag, before gluing.
Karen-
ReplyDeleteI love this graphic and will use it this week in a few projects I'm working on. I love being able to print right onto the fabric...I use just plain ol' freezor paper...just cut the fabaric to 8 x 11 and iron on the freezor paper- it goes thru just fine & a little cheaper than the label paper.
Thanks for all the great graphics! I also have a folder full!

Tammy,
ReplyDeleteDoes the freezer paper stick from the heat of the iron, or do you have to use an adhesive?
What a beautiful nest!! Thanks so much for sharing !!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cute idea, Karen! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh this is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I'd ever do without your blog! loveloveloveit
LOVE this image; can't wait to use it somewhere!! :)
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous little bags, Karen. I love this image. Thank you for sharing it with us. I am excited about using it.
ReplyDeleteTammy
this is beautiufl and can't wait to find a use for it. You are so generous Karen and I have man yof your images also saved in a folder. I noticed the question you asked Tammy. I print on a lot of fabric... iron your fabric to the shiny side of the freezer paper and it acts like an adhesive, make sure you trim any trheads and it runs through a printer wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this image!! It's so cute with the little egg at the top! I must tell you that when I found your blog (ages ago), I added it to my Google home page and each morning I so look forward to seeing what gorgeous image you have for me to download and what inspiring crafts you have to share.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
That is so great. Makes a wonderful, personalized gift bag
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful image, Karen! Another one I've saved. I need to get some supplies together and start doing these projects. I'd like to make some of them as Christmas gifts this year, but don't want to wait and rush at the last minute.

ReplyDeletebeautiful graphic! thanks for your generous spirit!! For some reason, I can't help but think Baby Shower for this image...
ReplyDeleteHi Karen,
ReplyDeleteThe transparent PNG file does not seem to be available any more. Would love to get the image without the background colour.
Thanks
Hi Kerry,
ReplyDeleteI just tested it and it seems to be working fine for me. Maybe there was a glitch the day you tried it, try it again and I'll cross my fingers that it works for you this time!
