Here's a super spooky image! This is from an antique German book, it's an old printers ornament for the letter D. The ornament features a creepy looking Skull with an envelope in it's mouth and a tall crown on it's head. This one's probably not for everyone, but it might work well for Halloween!

It takes a special person to appreciate this and I do! I'm planning on using this along with several of Halloween type graphics on your blog for vellum candle projects. Thanks for all you do!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,

ReplyDeleteany idea what the book was about? The triple tiara the skull is wearing is the one the
popes wore until a few centuries ago... so probably there is some sort of religious feud represented by it... just letting everyone know, it might offend someone unknowingly...
Silvina,
ReplyDeleteThe book is an old poetry book, from Germany I believe. Hopefully it won't offend anyone, that wasn't my intention, I just thought it would be fun for Halloween!
Karen- This is VERY offensive to Catholics. This is the tiara the pope wears - not a few centuries ago, but even now. It is a very anti-Catholic image. Could you read that German poem? I'd bet it was an anti-Catholic polemic. Remember that one of the disparaging terms for Catholic is 'papist.' How would you feel if someone used such a symbol against YOUR religion as 'fun for Halloween'. Ignorance might have been an excuse before, but it isn't now that you know. If you keep it up, I'll assume you're anti-Catholic.
ReplyDeleteLook ... you've got mail!
