This is an interesting looking Vintage Moth image from an early Natural History Book. The moth is called a "Death's Head Hawk Moth". If you look closely you can see a skull like pattern on it's back. Thus the "Death's Head" name. I don't think I've ever seen one like that around here before! Do any of you guys have these where you live?

ReplyDeleteGreat image, thanks! According to Wikipedia, there are 3 species and are found primarily in Europe and Asia. And they all have the odd ability to squeak loudly when irritated! xxx Nancy

ReplyDeleteLove this picture, would love to see the real one even more. I'm a moth-lover, you can find me in my garden of out in the field during the night when everybody else sleeps or parties, with a special light to attrac moth. But this is a rare species here, so for now, I will just admire your beautiful picture.

Looks like a Carolina Sphinx Moth. Or as some people call it a Tobacco Moth.
