This is a nice old British Flag or Union Jack image! This one comes from an old War Poster. It's taken on quite a yellowish tone over the years, which personally I really like, but I always like to give options when possible so, I've included a cleaned up version as well. This image is popping up everywhere in Home Decor right now, it's such a great look! I think I may just make a pillow or two out of this one!
Update: I stand corrected, the experts tell me that the correct name should be the Union Flag, not Jack, in this instance. Thanks for the info guys!

ReplyDeleteIt's known as the Union Jack only when it's flown from a ship. On land it's the Union Flag=)
ReplyDeleteHi Karen
ReplyDeleteA brilliant image obviously! One heavily used by fashion and pop culture back in the sixties - you saw it everywhere in Carnaby Street - and I put a tiny miniature one on the back of my pieces.
Here's some technical info for you. Everybody calls it the Union Jack, but it should properly be termed the Union Flag. A "jack" is a naval flag, and when the design was put together in the early 17th century it was intended for use on ships of the Royal Navy. So the emblem of the UK is the Union Flag, and the Union Jack is a smaller, more square version flown from the jack-staff of British naval vessels, and placed in the corner of the naval White Ensign.
