That's right it's time for the next graphic in my newest series "Spencerian Saturday"!!! Where every Saturday I will be adding a gorgeous image from an early calligraphy book.
The original scanned version of this amazing calligraphy horse with a cheub riding on it's back, is seen just above. At the top of the page is the cleaned up version.
I also made this red version, as I thought this one would be fun to use for Christmas. It would make a great tag, you could even add a name inside of the banner! Make sure you click on the images to bring up the largest size. Enjoy!XXXOOO

Truly amazing penmanship! Spencerian: the only way to fly!
ReplyDeleteHi Karen,
ReplyDeleteGosh, you have some great images!
Have long have you been a collector of sooo many images?
Thank you for sharing.
Hugs,
Anna
Neigh! This is great. Do you have any sheep images? Jo
ReplyDeleteHi Karen
ReplyDeleteYou're right - I'm not disappointed! This horse is fabulous! I've only previously seen birds, so much so that I call this style "Bird Calligraphy" in my files :) You are educating us too...

Hi SparkleFarkle,
ReplyDeleteYou always crack me up!!
Hi Anna,
I've been in the antiques business for over 18 years so, that's about the same time I started collecting this stuff!
Hi Jo,
Do you mean Calligraphy sheep? If so, no I don't. This book, has loads of birds, peacocks, some deer, horses, dogs, people etc but no sheep. I'm sure that I have other sheep around though.
Hi Juno,
I'm so glad! I think this is a rare one, as I've never seen a horse done in this style either. There are lots of birds in the book, so I will be posting them in the coming weeks.
Karen
Sweet image! Thanks for sharing! And did I read that right...peacocks a la Spencerian? Wow! ~ Angela
ReplyDeleteWhere have you been all my life?? I am in heaven on your site. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a horse drawn that way and the cherub has such an adult look about him. Very interesting!
ReplyDeleteSuch an unusual image Karen, many thanks again ... you continue to WOW me with the selection and beauty of what you share here! oxo

Hi~
ReplyDeleteI have a beautiful calligraphy of two hourses of about the same style as you have posted on here. Is there anyway I could send you a picture of it and if you can tell me more about it? All i know is that it's from early 1800s. It's not signed or anything, but I am really eager to know more about it. thanks.
Hi Subhan,
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd be able to give you anymore info then you have, I'm afraid! There would be no way of telling who made the piece and since you have the date already, I don't think I could tell you much more. It sounds very nice, you might try searching Ebay for similar pieces to get a value on it. The ones that I have all came from an early book, they are not hand drawn, but merely instructions on how to make these types of things.
Thanks for the response. The piece I have is hand drawn. It's in it's original form and very well kept. I wish I could show it to you. You wouldn't get tired of looking at it. I just wanted to see if I could find out more about it's history.
